Jennifer Hudson mourns Matthew Wright's sudden death: 'Rest in peace'

Jennifer Hudson is remembering a familiar face behind the scenes after the sudden death of producer Matthew Wright at 52.

The Oscar-winning actress and singer shared an emotional tribute on Instagram, revealing that Wright had recently visited The Jennifer Hudson Show — just days before his death.

“So saddened by the loss of Matt Wright, one of our former producers who helped launch @jenniferhudsonshow,” Hudson wrote.

“He was just back to visit on Thursday for our Halloween show!”

She added, “He made such a huge impact on so many people in this industry and beyond! My heart goes out to his family and loved ones. Rest in peace, Matt!”

Wright spent 16 years working as a producer on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and later helped get Hudson’s own talk show off the ground.

The program films on the same stage previously used by Ellen DeGeneres.

Wright died on October 30 while working remotely in Los Angeles. He was 52. A cause of death has not been publicly confirmed.

The fundraiser says his husband, Justin, and relatives in New York are facing the costs of bringing him home and arranging funeral and memorial services.

“His husband, father, sister and niece are in New York, desperate to be reunited for a proper goodbye. We’re asking for all of his friends, who Matt loved so fully, to help the family at this time,” the page reads.

The fundraiser also noted that both Wright and Justin had been laid off during the summer, making the unexpected expenses even harder to manage.
