Trump issues statement after UAE's shocking OPEC exit

President Donald Trump said Iran is seeking U.S. help to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, as his statement came nearly an hour after the UAE's decision to quit OPEC and OPEC+.

Taking to Truth Social, he writes the Iranian leadership is in a "state of collapse" as it is beset with an existential crisis.

However, Trump suggests that Tehran will work around his internal challenges.

"Iran has just informed us that they are in a 'state of collapse'." They want us to "open the Hormuz Strait" as soon as possible as they try to figure out their leadership situation (which I believe they will be able to do!). Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP."

Iranian officials have so far not publicly affirmed the claim's veracity.

However, the tweet comes at a tense moment for the energy markets, as on top of a shaky ceasefire, the pathway for global trade through Hormuz remains at nearly a standstill between Tehran and Washington, and broader pressure was added to the fragile situation with Abu Dhabi's decision to leave OPEC.
