Cole Allen shooter: Viral post after shooting sparks backlash and swift action
A drama is far from over after Cole Tomas Allen's arrest; in connection with the White House Correspondents' Dinner, a teacher in Wisconsin was placed on leave.
His name was Patrick Meyer, a veteran social studies teacher at Kaukauna High School.
His post, shortly after Allen's arrest, who is himself a part-time teacher, sparked outrage on social media.
In the post on X, he penned, “I am not impressed with recent presidential assassins. It’s f**** embarrassing! Booth, Guiteau, Czolgosz, and Oswald must all be spinning in their graves! MAGAA (make Americans great assassins again)! Sad!”
According to the New York Post, the statement mocked the U.S. President Donald Trump's Make America Great Again, or MAGA, slogan.
Following the post, severe backlash ensued, leading the Kaukauna Area School District to spring into action.
The school's management, in a statement, said, “The district has placed the employee on administrative leave and is taking additional action to review the matter in accordance with its policies and procedures."
“The Kaukauna Area School District is committed to maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for all students, families, and staff and unequivocally rejects any conduct, expression, or behaviour that may encourage, condone, or promote violence in any form,” it read.
The school also distanced them from the viral post by Meyer, who has been a teacher for over 2 decades.
“It was not related to the Kaukauna Area School District, and there has been no evidence of a risk to the safety of our students and schools," the statement said.
The post comes at a tense moment as a shooting by Allen rocked the capital of the U.S., spiking fears over political violence.
