Hailey Bieber opens up about health battle following son Jack's birth

Hailey Bieber has revealed that she struggled with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) after the birth of her son, Jack Blues, saying that open conversation helps make it “less of a lonely journey.”

The Rhode founder, who is married to Justin Bieber, told WWD that the condition affected her after Jack was born in August 2024.

“After I had my son, I struggled with [PMDD] a bit, and there’s just not a lot of conversation or research around it,” she said.

PMDD is a severe form of premenstrual syndrome, and symptoms can include anxiety, panic attacks, depression, insomnia, fatigue and mood swings.

Bieber explained why she chose to speak out, saying that talking about it helps people feel less alone and “makes it feel like less of a lonely journey.”

The comments follow other health revelations she made on the Therapuss podcast earlier this year.

She said she had a “mini stroke” in 2022, adding: “A couple of years ago, I had a crazy medical situation.”

She also explained that she was born with a heart defect, a patent foramen ovale, which required surgery carried out through the groin. She was able to go in and out of hospital on the same day.

The experience left her feeling “hyper aware” of her body, she said, and contributed to her anxiety.

Bieber says her interest in health and medicine helped inspire her beauty brand, Rhode.

The company has pledged $5 million to the Foundation for Women’s Health over three years to support research into women’s health. She sold Rhode to e.l.f. Beauty in 2025 for $1 billion.
