Chappell Roan makes hilarious error in official speech

Chappell Roan had an accidental slip-up during her speech at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, which caused the audience to break into laughter.

The 27-year-old pop superstar went up to the stage to introduce Cyndi Lauper for her Hall of Fame induction on Saturday, November 8, and honoured the musician’s legacy in her speech.

The Good Luck, Babe! hitmaker began, “I think we can all agree that the best art comes from the most authentic people. When artists stay true to themselves, even when some people say they’re too much, too loud, too eccentric, or all of the above, that honesty becomes their greatest strength.”

When Roan, who donned an outfit inspired by Lauper’s True Colors music video, struggled to read the words, she said, “I f---,” before immediately doing a double take and saying, “I messed up so bad by refusing to get contacts. Holy cow.”

The audience chuckled as she continued the rest of the speech, praising Lauper’s contribution to art, saying, "Tonight, we honor a woman who redefined what a pop star could look like, sound like, sing like, and be. A music legend whose authenticity has inspired us for the last four decades with her four-octave range and the amazingly fabulous Cyndi Lauper.”

The Time After Time songstress then joined Roan on stage to receive the honour, and then perform many of her hit songs.
