Turkey's Balıkesir province shaken by 4.9 magnitude earthquake

An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 struck Balıkesir province in northwestern Turkey on Sunday, according to the country’s disaster management agency, AFAD. There were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage.

According to a report by Reuters, AFAD stated that the epicenter of the quake was in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir and that it occurred at a depth of 7.72 kilometers.

Last month, the same region was hit by a 6.1 magnitude earthquake, which resulted in one death and the collapse of several buildings.

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that AFAD and other emergency teams are currently assessing the situation in the affected area.
