'Dune' star blasts Academy Awards for major snub

Josh Brolin, the star in the Dune franchise, previously voiced support for the director Denis Villeneuve to deserve a nomination for sci-fi film in the Academy.

Now, when the nomination is announced, the Canadian filmmaker appears to have been snubbed. The Marvel actor seemed to have lost his cool.

On Instagram, he blasted the Academy, “It makes no sense” that Villeneuve was snubbed for best director given the film racking up five nominations — including best picture.”

“Apparently, I’m going to quit acting because Denis Villeneuve didn’t get nominated, and this is just how this thing works,” he continued.

“Makes no sense to me. That’s okay. It’s an amazing film. I think it was even better than the first one. But the people who have gotten accolades sure deserve it and happy to be a part of it.”

Despite the snub, Denis could still win an Oscar if Dune: Part Two scoops up the best picture gong because the filmmaker is also the co-producer.

The 97th Academy Awards will air on March 2.
